Houston Plastic Surgeon Reveals Various Benefits of Silicone Breast Implants

Dr. James F. Boynton highlights the advantages of different silicone gel breast implant options available at his practice.

Houston, TX — Women considering breast enhancement surgery have a number of implant options available to them. “In my practice,” states Houston plastic surgeon James F. Boynton, MD, “I offer many different breast implant options, including traditional silicone gel implants, highly cohesive or form-stable cohesive silicone gel ‘anatomic style’ implants, and saline breast implants.” He notes that each of these choices can provide distinct benefits for the right candidates, though he is partial to a particular type.

“My bias as an aesthetic plastic surgeon specializing in aesthetic breast surgery is strongly towards using silicone gel breast implants,” writes Dr. Boynton in a recent blog post regarding breast implant options. He goes on to explain that he believes silicone gel implants generally provide the most natural looking and feeling results, adding that they are typically more durable and longer-lasting than saline implants, as well.

Dr. Boynton says many of his patients who are interested in a “more natural, non-augmented” look after breast surgery have been particularly excited about the newest FDA-approved implants available in the United States: anatomically-shaped, form-stable cohesive gel implants. Also called “gummy bear” implants, this subtype of silicone gel implants is designed with less upper pole fullness to closely mimic the appearance of natural breasts. Dr. Boynton offers Sientra® HSC (high strength cohesive) gel anatomic implants and Mentor® MemoryShape™ implants, both of which have proven to produce exceptional results.

In addition to anatomic-shaped implants, Dr. Boynton says another popular option among his patients is Sientra®’s round, textured silicone gel breast implant. “The round, textured implant is a nice option that still has many of the positives of a round gel implant, but for individuals with concerns of “bottoming out” or in revision downsizing cases, this can be an excellent choice.”

Ultimately, Dr. Boynton states that implant of choice will depend on the patient’s unique anatomy and cosmetic goals. For individuals interested in receiving breast implants, he stresses the importance of consulting a board certified plastic surgeon to ensure the most effective decisions are made and the safest treatment is received.
