Houston Plastic Surgeon Performs Arm Lift Surgery For Post-Bariatric Patients

Dr. Boynton uses a unique arm lift technique that is less invasive, preserves sensory nerves and lymphatics, and reduces recovery time.

Houston, TX – Dr. James F. Boynton, a Houston plastic surgeon, prides himself on giving his patients natural-looking results and boosted self-confidence. At Boynton Plastic Surgery, Dr. Boynton uses arm lift surgery (brachioplasty) to reduce sagging, loose, and excess skin in the upper arms.

According to Dr. Boynton, arm lift surgery removes inelastic skin in the arms, yielding a tightened, firmer, and more youthful appearance. For patients seeking toned upper arms that look natural and smooth, he says arm lift surgery can achieve those results.

Dr. Boynton highlights that most of his arm lift surgery patients are post-bariatric patients. Patients who have undergone significant weight loss often retain loose skin around the triceps that can be difficult – and sometimes impossible – to eliminate through rigorous diet and exercise alone. “Patients with loose skin hanging from the bottom of the upper arms is really an irreversible change after losing so much weight,” says Dr. Boynton.

The arm lift technique Dr. Boynton performs is designed to address this loose skin in the most cosmetically concealed way possible. He utilizes a combination of liposuction and skin excision to remove the loose skin and then reshape the arm. The incision is well-concealed on the inside of each arm.

Dr. Boynton has found that his unique technique causes far fewer complications than many of the traditional arm lift techniques. He says his arm lift procedure is less invasive with less “undermining” of tissue which results in less risk for injury to sensory nerves and lymphatics from a clinical standpoint. He also notes that the post operative swelling is substantially less and goes away sooner than in traditional arm lift procedures, which speeds up the recovery process for his patients. Furthermore, he adds that his technique is safe and also uses smaller incisions because it requires less tension on the skin.

Arm lift surgery is often performed as an outpatient procedure and most of Dr. Boynton’s Houston plastic surgery patients are able to resume normal daily routines one week after treatment. Some of his patients choose to combine an arm lift procedure with another body contouring procedure to create a more comprehensive body rejuvenation. Dr. Boynton recommends that his patients avoid engaging in strenuous activity or heavy lifting following arm lift surgery. While patients will notice results immediately after the procedure, he says they should wait a few weeks to observe the final results.
