Our Houston Plastic Surgeon Recently Discussed the Links Between Artistry and Plastic Surgery on KPFT-FM Radio

Our board-certified plastic surgeon in Houston, Dr. James Boynton, has a first-hand understanding of how important it is to approach the surgical rejuvenation of one’s appearance with an artistic eye. This blend of both art and science is a skill Dr. Boynton has honed over many years through his extensive training, education, and experience in the field of plastic surgery, and by the influence of his late father, Jack Boynton. The elder Boynton, who passed away in 2010, was and is a renowned artist originally from Fort Worth whose works have been exhibited in some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In a recent appearance on KPFT-FM’s The Houston Hour, Dr. Boynton had a lively discussion with co-hosts Mister McKinney and Heidi Vaughan about his father’s art and how a sense of artistic refinement is a critical element in his own career as a plastic surgeon.

During the episode, Dr. Boynton talked glowingly about the historical impact of his father’s success as an artist and his contributions to the city of Houston. In addition to Jack Boynton’s solo works and his collaborations with artist Richard Stout, he was an art instructor at the University of Houston during the 1950s. Part of the discussion included the relationship between Jack Boynton’s career as an artist and Dr. Boynton’s as a plastic surgeon, and how skills from the former influence the latter. Whether he is performing facelift surgery, breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, or perhaps even a non-surgical aesthetic enhancement procedure, Dr. Boynton believes that an artistic sense of beauty, contour, subtlety, and refinement are some of the keys to providing his patients with results that not only meet their cosmetic goals, but also look natural rather than “artificial.” Dr. Boynton has always contended that the best results from aesthetic enhancement procedures are those that bring out one’s natural beauty, and the combination of artistic and scientific talent can be vital for helping patients achieve the appearance they desire and a restored sense of self-confidence.

Dr. Boynton is in the process of compiling stories, photos, prints, and information about Jack Boynton’s original artworks into a book about his father’s life, ultimately building a timeline of his works that are not in galleries. In fact, he’s even inviting the public for help with any information that may be useful for his efforts, as he says he doesn’t know much about a good portion of his father’s life as an artist in the 50’s and 60’s. For Dr. Boynton, this tribute to his father’s career springs, in part, from the gratitude he feels for Jack Boynton and the influence he had on his own life’s work.
